I love languages and I love to mix them. Sometimes I keep the phrases in my head because I’m not sure others would be as amused as I am.
For example, you might hear me ask “What else” but lately the phrase in my head has been “Was más”, combining German and Spanish. Or if I have a stomach cramp, “Mi estomago de pain me-o” blending Spanish with Pidgin. Another phrase I’ve thought of but tend to keep in my head: “Ban sani ba (Hausa: I don’t know) laikin (Arabic: but) we go see (Pidgin: we’ll see)”.
Sometimes I don’t even use real words. I just change things around the way I please, such as saying “Mucho better-o”. (I’ve been known to actually say this one aloud.)
It’s fun to converse with people who understand all the combined segments and keep it going. Sometimes it’s a matter of not knowing the word for something so we drop in the English (or other language) as needed. Or sometimes we know the complete translations but it’s just fun to mix things up.
Entonces mek we parler togeda (Spanish/Pidgin/French/Pidgin: In that case let’s talk together.)
